Kirk Cousins played out the final year of his contract with the Minnesota Vikings this past season.
Thus, he is now a free agent.
While other NFL-related stories like Tom Brady accusing Gisele Bundchen of cheating on him, Joe Burrow’s suspicious interaction with Kendall Jenner, and Baker Mayfield’s wife posing with no shirt on have dominated the headlines in recent weeks, Cousins’ status is arguably the most impactful thing to watch in football.
If he lands with a contender that needs a reliable quarterback option – the league could be in big trouble.
There are no shortage of suitors for Cousins.
“Cousins is a good quarterback, the kind who can take a good team to the Super Bowl and win it,” Pete Prisco of CBS Sports wrote this past week.
“He is coming off a torn Achilles tendon, but he should be ready for the open of the 2024 season, which makes him a starter of value in a league where teams crave that type of player under center.”
This past week NFL insider Mike Florio appeared on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh and revealed that people close to Cousins want to see him land with one particular NFL team.
“If the [Pittsburgh] Steelers are going to do something at quarterback, they are going to get a veteran,” Florio said.
“They aren’t going to roll the dice with a bottom third of the first-round draft pick and hope that that guy develops. I was talking to some people last week who seem to be intrigued by the possibility of the Steelers making a play for Kirk Cousins. And those people were very close to if not within the Kirk Cousins camp.”

It would make sense that Cousins is looking to move on from Minnesota. It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows during his stint with the Vikings.
That said, the path to a Super Bowl doesn’t look like it will be very easy from Pittsburgh next season.
One way or another, Cousins’ decision on where he is playing in 2024 will has massive ramifications for the entire NFL.
