Tracy McGrady Names 5 Best Players In NBA, Excludes LeBron James

Tracy McGrady is one of the best and most influential players of his generation.

Although he never quite achieved the heights of other legends he squared off against like Kobe Bryant, he earned their respect nevertheless.

Bryant famously described McGrady as the hardest player he ever had to guard.

Because of that, McGrady is uniquely qualified to speak on the greatness of modern day players in a way few other retires stars are.

This week, McGrady named who in his estimation are the five best players in the league today.

“Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander], Luka [Doncic], [Nikola] Jokic, [Jayson Tatum], [and Kevin Durant],” he said.

McGrady also made it a point to add one addendum.

“This list is not in order and I did not include Joel because he is injured,” he said.

Two notable omissions surprised fans: LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.

“[Giannis] top 5 bro, [I don’t know] what basketball you watching,” one person wrote.

“What about [LeBron]? He’s out here cooking youngings up at age 40 literally,” another fan wrote.

That is the beauty of these lists, though – everyone can have their own opinion.

And clearly in McGrady’s, neither James nor Antetokounmpo make the cut.

McGrady always keeps it real with his hoops takes. Between his opinion on Kobe Bryant’s all-time ranking, his blunt take on Jokic and his harsh assessment of Rudy Gobert, McGrady has never been one to bite his tongue.

And this is no exception.

What interesting hoops-related opinions will McGrady ultimately throw out there next for public consumption? Time will tell.
