1 Team Emerges As Colin Kaepernick Contender

Colin Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016.

Despite numerous false starts and rumors, the 33-year-old has not gotten another opportunity in pro football following his initial blacklisting.

This week Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggested that circumstances may change as a result of what now appears to be Russell Wilson’s inevitable trade.

Wilson, of course, is unhappy with the Seattle Seahawks and wants to be moved.

One clear potential landing spot has emerged for Wilson.

If Wilson does get traded, Seattle suddenly has a big void at quarterback. And in Florio’s opinion, Kaepernick deserves as much a chance at filling it as anyone else.

“There’s something else the Seahawks could do, if they trade Wilson,” he wrote. “They could finally give Colin Kaepernick (who is only one year older than Wilson) a full and fair workout, undeterred by the possibility that Kaepernick would divide the locker room on the question of whether he or Wilson should play. (In 2017, given the lingering presence of veterans who resented Wilson, that was a very real possibility.)”

As recently as this past year, Kaepernick was getting zero interest from NFL clubs despite a bevy of injuries impacting quarterbacks in the league. At that point, some deemed his career officially over – once and for all.

Will Seattle’s rapidly changing circumstances at quarterback be the driving force in a potential Kaepernick return to the NFL? Time will tell.
