Warriors’ Stance On Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole

The Golden State Warriors won their fourth championship in eight years this past season.

Generally, when teams win a chip, many organizations like to go in and overpay everyone on the team as a thank you for their service – sometimes to their long-term detriments.

The Warriors have not taken that route. In fact, they’ve let countless key role players leave this offseason.

This week Kendra Andrews appeared on ESPN’s NBA show to shine a light on where the Warriors stand with Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole.

“Those conversations really haven’t started in earnest yet,” Andrews said.

“When it comes to the rookie contract extensions, non-max contracts, those conversations don’t pick up till closer to that October 17th deadline so as we get closer to that as we move into October then those conversations with Jordan Poole will pick up.

“With the Warriors’ salary, with the landscape of their money, they’re not rushing into any of these conversations. So, when you look at Andrew Wiggins, they have all season to figure out that extension, and Draymond Green, that’s a couple years away. So that is definitely lower on their list of priorities right now.”

It will be interesting to see how this situation ultimately unfolds. One team recently expressed legit interest in acquiring Poole. Wiggins, similarly, has been linked to some blockbuster trade proposals.

Gary Payton II recently shined an interesting light on why he left the Warriors for the Portland Trail Blazers. It echoed what Otto Porter Jr. said about his decision to depart The Bay for the Toronto Raptors.

Clearly Golden State is conscious of its financial standing.

How will that ultimately impact the franchise’s ability to retain Green, Wiggins and Poole when everything is said and done?

Time will tell.
