Real Reason Blake Griffin Refuses To Return To NBA

Blake Griffin had a lengthy NBA career that spanned 14 years from 2009 to 2023.

During that time Griffin made six NBA All-Star appearances, won a Rookie of the Year award, and headlined some pretty dominant Los Angeles Clippers teams.

Off the court, Griffin also made headlines for everything ranging from possibly fathering an adult movie star’s baby to being called immature by some of his old teammates to his Kardashian links.

In 2023, Griffin decided to call it a career – despite some of his old teammates begging him to return.

“I don’t know. We begged him to,” Payton Pritchard said on a Barstool Sports podcast.

“I think the whole team has been begging him to,” Derrick White added.

“I texted him actually a week ago or two jokingly being like, ‘Coming back for one last ride?’ He says he’s enjoying his life,” Pritchard said.

That appears to be the reason Griffin doesn’t actually want to return to basketball.

“When he told me at the end of last year that his family was the most important thing, I stopped talking to him about it,” Mazzulla told Jared Weiss of The Athletic. “Because I know what it’s like to be away from your kids and away from your family.”

That certainly makes sense. Griffin isn’t the same player he used to be, and rather than riding the end of the bench in Boston, he is out enjoying his life.

Nobody can fault him for that.

In 2023, Griffin appeared in 41 outings for the Celtics and averaged 4.1 points per game.

It appears that sort of contribution isn’t enough to get Griffin to return.

For now, at least.

At the end of the day, Griffin is still only 34 years old and has at least another year to change his mind.
