John Calipari’s Message About Kentucky Fan Goes Viral (Photos)

John Calipari’s Kentucky squad held a Blue-White game over the weekend, but it wasn’t the on-the-court product that everyone ultimately came away talking about.
Rather, the most viral thing to emerge from the outing was the participation of two fans.
In the aftermath, Kentucky’s head basketball coach took to social media to address what he saw.
Calipari’s message, understandably, immediately went viral.
My family’s American dream started in a Clarksburg, WV coal mine, so this picture hits home.
From what I’ve been told, after his shift, he raced to be with his son & watch our team. Don’t know who this is, but I have tickets for him & his family at Rupp to be treated as VIPs!! pic.twitter.com/a5BJXUnK2v

For clear reasons, fans had strong reactions to Calipari taking a moment out to acknowledge this gentleman and his son.
The responses speak for themselves:

He said and done some things that have made some of our fans angry, but I think that Coach Cal is a great man at heart. He has the toughest (and best) job in college basketball and does it pretty darn well. https://t.co/Jc0XAs7xwt

You can take the boy out of the hills, but you can never take the hills (and those values of work and family) out of the boy. Well done @UKCoachCalipari (Lewis County boy here) https://t.co/1YVZO7uv2t

It’s strange how many and how strong the ties to coal are around here. Everyone from the area can lay claim to it. Awesome move by Cal. https://t.co/CrvYsv52rd pic.twitter.com/JUtnLa3B0X

This has been a crazy year for college athletics. Between allegations of cheating, prominent coach’s daughters going wild and suspicious behavior by referees – it has been one thing after another. No university has been untouched by big headlines.
With that in mind, it’s truly special to see a story this positive coming out of college basketball.

It’s a real palate cleanser.
Time will tell how Kentucky is going to fare on the court in 2022-23, but the Wildcats are definitely off to an impressive start off it.
