Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis has been out of action for more than a month after suffering a right calf strain while dealing with Achilles soreness.
Without their second best player, the Lakers have struggled – going 4-6 in their last 10 outings and falling to third in the Western Conference.
There was initially some hope that Kyle Kuzma’s demotion would mitigate some of the damage done by Davis’ exit, but that proved not to be the case.
Originally it was believed that Davis might return shortly after the All-Star break.
Unfortunately, this week the Lakers revealed some bad news.
According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Davis will be out for much longer than anticipated.
“Davis could be sidelined for the next three weeks and possibly beyond,” he wrote. “The Lakers will be overly cautious in their approach to working Davis back even at the cost of slipping in the standings, which has occurred.”
Over the course of 23 games this year Davis has averaged 22.5 points on 53 percent shooting, 8.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.8 blocks per outing.

That’s a lot of production to make up for.
Which explains why LA has been so active in the trade market. Currently, the team is looking at two prominent big men, and is one of five squads in contention for Indiana Pacers shot-blocking machine Myles Turner.
Between Davis’ absence getting extended and LeBron James’ recent comments about the composition of the team, it’s safe to assume that the Lakers will try their hardest to get some sort of deal done before March 25’s trade deadline.
