Miami Heat star Tyler Herro has been much better than Milwaukee Bucks guard, Damian Lillard, so far this season.
All offseason, questions reigned supreme about whether Miami would be able to complete a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers for Lillard.
If that deal had gone through, Herro would have been a central piece in it.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) for the Heat, Portland decided to send Lillard to Milwaukee.
So far it seems like Miami wound up getting the better end of the deal.
Obviously the new season is still young, but the stats show that Herro has outplayed Lillard in 2023.
Herro is currently averaging 25.8 points per game on 45.3 percent shooting from the field and 45.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Lillard is currently averaging 23.0 points per game on 41.4 percent shooting from the field and 34.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Herro is also dishing out 5.0 assists, grabbing 5.7 rebounds and racking up 1.2 steals per game. Lillard? He is putting up 4.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game.
The numbers don’t lie – thus far Herro is the better player.
It is hard to know whether Herro is playing so well because he has a chip on his shoulder form this summer. But it certainly seems like it.
“I thought I was out of here,” Herro told Wes Goldberg of The Ringer last month. “I damn near had my s**t packed up.”
Instead of sulking, though – Herro has decided to prove his doubters wrong.
“I think my name just gives people something to talk about every summer,” Herro said. “The goalpost always moves with me. At first, they said I wouldn’t be a 20-point scorer, then I’m a 20-point scorer. I don’t know what the hell they say now, but I’m sure there’s something.”
Slowly but surely, Herro is taking away all the haters’ material.

Obviously Lillard’s slow start isn’t entirely his fault. He is getting used to a new scheme with the Bucks, plus he is besieged by the off the court drama. He is currently in the midst of a messy divorce, one full of salacious demands and ugly allegations.
That being said, Herro is no stranger to offseason female drama either. He has still found a way to persevere.
The NBA season is a long one. These are still the early days of the quiet battle between Herro and Lillard. So far, though – Herro is clearly winning.
