DeMarcus Cousins Being Linked To 2 NBA Teams

The 2024 NBA Trade Deadline came and went last week, meaning that the only opportunity NBA teams now have to improve themselves is picking up available free agent players.

One such big name that is currently on the market is DeMarcus Cousins.

While the 33-year-old has obviously been out of the league for a while, he did recently record a 30-point game in the Taiwan Beer Leopards’ 114-88 win over the Tainan TSG GhostHawks.

Cousins has recently been very honest about why no NBA teams have picked him up yet. So he understands what’s what. But between his recent body transformation and strong overseas play, there are now murmurs that maybe he will get a second chance.

This week, Warriors insider Monte Pool noted that the Golden State Warriors could be a candidate to add Cousins for a late push towards the playoffs.

“Having spent the 2018-19 season with Golden State, Cousins knows the system,” Poole wrote. “He’s 33, younger than Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. He’s 6-foot-10, 270 pounds and still has offensive skill, as he posted a 30-point game two weeks ago in Taiwan.”

That said, Poole also made sure to cite the argument against Golden State adding Cousins.

“But Boogie’s left leg has endured surgeries to repair a ruptured Achilles’ tendon and a torn ACL, so his lack of mobility disallows effective defense in the paint,” Poole noited.

“There is no chance of switching and not much rim protection. Then, too, Cousins, by most accounts, was not a seamless fit within the team’s culture.”

Some fans seemed excited by the prospect of bringing Cousins onboard:

If not the Warriors, the Lakers are also a squad to keep an eye on. Cousins was linked to Los Angeles not that long ago, so clearly there is mutual interest there. In the past, the circumstances didn’t align for a potential union – but that isn’t necessarily true now.

Heading into the playoffs, the Lakers need a big body to throw at Nikola Jokic. Nobody can stop the reigning NBA Finals MVP, obviously. But having six fouls to throw at him in the form of a legit center helps.

Will Cousins ultimately get another shot in the NBA in 2024? An answer one way or the other will emerge soon enough.
