Cale Gundy’s Daughter Exposes Truth About His Oklahoma Exit

Oklahoma assistant coach Cale Gundy’s abrupt exit from the program this week caught many off guard.

Initially, Cale tried to get ahead of things. He released a statement suggesting that his departure stemmed from an incident where he spotted a distracted athlete, grabbed his iPad, and then read the words on the screen aloud. Among the words he read, apparently, was a word that he himself admits he shouldn’t have said.

According to Cale, the word was uttered once.

After a lot of backlash to his departure, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables came out with a statement of his own.

Venables offered a different version of the incident – one where Cale used the inappropriate word in question multiple times.

“Coach Gundy resigned from the program because he knows what he did was wrong,” Venables said in the statement.

“He chose to read aloud to his players, not once but multiple times, a racially charged word that is objectionable to everyone, and does not reflect the attitude and values of our university or our football program. This is not acceptable. Period. Coach Gundy did the right thing in resigning.”

This apparently struck a nerve with Cale’s daughter, Cat Gundy. Her tweet largely speaks for itself:

She would go on to delete the tweet shortly thereafter, but obviously it left quite the impression.

Clearly there is more to this story that isn’t being told.

In a year where Hugh Freeze got in trouble for the DMs he sent to a female student, superstar Heisman frontrunners got exposed for their weird bedroom fetishes, coaches found themselves entangled in unfortunate situations with beautiful young blonde assistants, and once-respected schools were accused of playing players based on race — this latest incident feels like par for the course.

Over the next few days and weeks, presumably the truth about what really happened here will eventually come out.

And when it does, hopefully the right parties ultimately get the justice they deserve.
