Manny Pacquiao vs. Shawn Porter in 2020 is a fight that makes sense for all involved.

Both Pacquiao and Porter are in the unique positions of being fresh off split decisions that really could have gone either way.

All the talk leading up to Pacquiao vs. Thurman was how the latter would dominate his much-older foe.

Instead, the Filipino champion completely out-worked Thurman en route to becoming the first four-time welterweight champion ion boxing history and the oldest welterweight in boxing history.

Although Pacquiao won the fight, some suggested that Thurman, the more accurate fighter throughout the night, should have gotten the nod.

Similarly, Porter went into his bout with Errol Spence Jr. with many expecting the latter fighter to win handily and then go on to fight Danny Garcia.

Instead, Porter put it on Spence for the first part of the fight before Spence ultimately gathered his composure and began to scratch and claw his way back into the match.

Ultimately, when it was all said and done, Spence won with two scores of 116–111 for him and one of 115–112 for Porter.

While pairing up a winning fighter and a losing fighter is not ideal, the closeness of their prior two bouts goes some way in justifying it.

Moreover, since neither Pacquiao nor Porter have any particularly appealing options ahead of them, having them fight makes a lot more sense.

And for what it is worth, Porter wants the fight.

“The whole promotion was leading up to who would fight Manny Pacquaio next,” Porter said recently.

“Danny got in the ring and called (Spence) out. So, I want to get in there and call Manny out. Let’s see what happens.”

Will this fight ultimately come to fruition? It is difficult to say.

Is it really any worse of a match than Pacquiao versus the likes of Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia or Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be?

Absolutely not.
