Tim Tebow’s Odds Of Making Jaguars Final Roster Revealed
Urban Meyer certainly made a splash in his first offseason as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, opting to bring in Tim Tebow and giving him an opportunity to compete for a spot on the roster.
Although the rationale of using Tebow in a Taysom Hill-like role kind of makes sense, the fact that the former Florida star had been out of the NFL for years prior to this little experiment made many dubious about how it would ultimately end up working out.
As the start of preseason nears, Tebow’s odds of making the Jaguars’ final roster are beginning to come into focus.
This week, Jaguars insider Mike DiRocco appeared on ESPN’s Get Up and offered a surprising update on the 33-year-old.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect the first time I saw him working out at tight end, but he didn’t look out of place,” DiRocco said.
“He looked like he belonged. His fundamentals need work and his footwork is a little bit slow and he’s getting some coaching after every drill there, but if people were expecting him to look like he didn’t know what he was doing, that’s not the case.”
Beyond that, Tebow’s leadership appears to be a real strong point for him.
“I’ve talked to several people inside the organization and all those questions about how his teammates would accept him is not an issue,” DiRocco continued.

“He’s well-liked and they see how hard he works. They respect that. The guys have no problem with him. The issue you may get at the end of training camp is these guys know who can play. They can watch a guy and see who can play and who can’t. If they get to a point where he makes the roster and they’ve all see they don’t think he should be there, then you may have an issue there. Right now? No issue at all.”
Last week, Meyer himself also weighed in on how likely it is that Tebow makes the final roster. It seems like all the messaging on this topic is fairly unified.
One way or another, this is something to watch. If Tebow does end up being a real member of the Jaguars come next season, it could be one of the NFL’s more intriguing side plots in 2021-22.
