Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was involved in a fatal car accident this past week.
Early Tuesday morning, Ruggs’ Corvette crashed into the back of a Toyota RAV4 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He sustained injuries as a result of the incident, but the woman and dog in the other vehicle ultimately died after their car caught on fire.
Ruggs, who at one point reportedly reached a speed of 156 mph and had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit in the state of Nevada, was later charged with four felonies and one misdemeanor. He faces an extremely lengthy prison stint.
In the days since the fatal accident, many have examined Ruggs’ social media history. One of the troubling discoveries that has been made has been his seeming disregard for the idea of reckless driving.

On Friday, video surfaced showing how Ruggs was driving right before the fatal accident. That coupled with what he was yelling at hospital staff after receiving medical attention paints an extremely troubling picture.
Ruggs’ former collegiate head coach, Nick Saban, spoke rather bluntly about what the events from the past week would mean for the ex-Alabama wide receiver’s life going forward. It’s hard not to feel like he’s right.

It seems like Ruggs genuinely felt like the idea of reckless driving was not something that he had to worry about. The rules of the road, based on his social media track record, seemingly did not apply to him in his mind.
In the end, two lives were lost as a result of Ruggs’ mistakes – and countless others will never be the same again.
