The Philadelphia Eagles pulled out a close win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon, but it didn’t come without controversy.
Beyond the on-the-field dramatics, one eagle-eyed fan also noticed a brewing controversy in the stands as well.
Specifically, the fact that one of the most beloved and popular singers of his generation refused to stand for the National Anthem.
The visual largely speaks for itself:

The gentleman in question, John Mellencamp, is a legendary singer-songwriter who memorably sang “Ain’t That America.”
Understandably, given the current state of affairs on social media, the reactions to this poured in immediately:
He has always hated American. That must be his spoiled son lounging behind him.

Pretty embarrassing seeing how many others in that photo are sitting as well.

Went to Chris Lytle’s UFC victory party after UFC 119 in Indy. John Mellencamp was there and said he wouldn’t take pictures with any of us, we didn’t ask. We were there to celebrate the win of a hometown guy, not get a picture with a has been singer, so none of us were upset.

Total fraud – same with Springsteen

It was quite the big deal when news emerged that two NBA stars had been secretly boycotting the National Anthem for a year.
Time will tell if a similar brouhaha erupts here.
This has been a crazy year for all things Eagles football. Between that one incident where a Minnesota Vikings fan simply could not stop ogling an Eagles fan with a big butt and all the blatant cheating that occurred one week ago with the Washington Commanders – it has been one thing after another.

In some ways, this most recent storm is just par for the course.
Will Mellencamp or any of his representatives ultimately opt to address what precisely happened this past weekend?
An answer will emerge soon enough.
