Are Refs Blatantly Helping Saints Beat Bears? (Video)

The stakes are high in Sunday’s showdown between the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears. It’s not just about the two teams involved in the match-up, the entire reminder of the NFC postseason will be shaped by the result of this outing.

If the Saints beat the Bears, then the LA Rams become the lowest remaining seed in the conference and are forced to travel to Lambeau to square off against the Green Bay Packers.

In that scenario, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would then go back to the Superdome to face the Saints for the third time this season.

Should the Bears upset New Orleans, Tampa Bay would then host the next round of the playoffs. In that scenario, the Bucs play the Rams and the Bears head to Green Bay instead.

With all that in mind, it would stand to reason that the referees in this game would be extra careful not to tip the proceedings one way or the other. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case thus far.

With New Orleans up 7-0 early in the second quarter, Bears tight end Cole Kmet got the ball after a play and tossed it to the nearby referee. The referee failed to catch the ball and inexplicably decided to call a 15-yard penalty for taunting.

This is not the first terrible call of the day, but it’s still extremely egregious.

At some point, the powers that be are going to need to step in and start penalizing incompetent officials. If they don’t, the integrity of the game is going to be reduced to absolute rubble.
