Steve Kerr On Andrew Wiggins’ Expected Warriors Return (Video)

Steve Kerr once again this week addressed Andrew Wiggins’ continued absence from and expected return to the Golden State Warriors.

Last year Wiggins was an instrumental part of the Warriors’ march to an NBA title. For his troubles, he was rewarded with a four-year, $109 million contact extension.

This season hasn’t gone according to plan, though.

Although Wiggins’ stats have largely remained similar to what they were last year, he has missed far more games. After playing in more than 70 total in each of his last two seasons, he has played just 37 this season.

Moreover, he hasn’t played a game since Feb. 13 and his absence has been shrouded in mystery. All anyone has said thus far is that it is a serious personal matter.

That has led to speculation about his relationship with his girlfriend, which she eventually had to come out and address. Wiggins’ teammate Draymond Green addressed it as well, but his statements about it left folks with more questions than answers.

All of which led to Kerr discussing the matter with reporters this week.

“Still no timetable update from Steve Kerr on Andrew Wiggins,” Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported. “Did say he’s been working out on a daily basis, but team wouldn’t know about his game conditioning until he got back in building. 20th straight missed game tonight.

Stephen Curry was also recently asked about Wiggins’ absence.

“We’d love to have him and hope that that does happen,” Curry said.

“We want to be whole and I’m sure he wants to be a part of this. But when he walks through the door will be when it’s the right time for him. That’s kind of the expectation at this point, so nothing’s really changed.”

Wiggins is a crucial piece of the Warriors’ puzzle, so his on-the-court production is being greatly missed right now.

But just as notable is the mystery surrounding his absence. It’s almost as big a story as the absence itself.

Will Wiggins ultimately return to the Warriors at some point in the foreseeable future and help them win a second straight NBA Title? Time will tell.
