Scottie Pippen has always been one of the NBA’s more honest personalities, but never more so than in recent months.
The Chicago Bulls legend has gone off on his former teammate, Michael Jordan repeatedly in his new book, Unguarded. And then he did it some more in interviews.
It has gotten to the point where even Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma felt the need to intervene.
This week, during an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Pippen offered a rather blunt assessment of another player: Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.
“He was definitely prime Kobe, a very tough player to guard,” he said. “Reminded me a lot about competing against Michael, day in and day out. But I was older and he was younger, so it was a lot different. He was definitely one of the toughest that I’ve ever played against. Especially once Phil got a hold of him and Shaq, and got that team really playing together, and playing with some chemistry. They were a very special team.”

Given how unapologetically brutal Pippen’s reviews of Jordan and Brooklyn Nets star James Harden have been as of late, it was a pleasant surprise to hear him speak so glowingly of Bryant.
It just goes to show that, for all the controversy that followed him at one point in time, Bryant remains one of the most beloved and respected NBA personalities of all time.
