Paul Pierce is one of the greatest NBA players of his generation.
Not only did he win a championship with the Boston Celtics, but he also ran roughshod over the Eastern Conference for many years both with and without All-Star talent surrounding him.
During a recent appearance on Draymond Green’s show, Pierce made headlines for two things.
First, for finally making peace with Green. The pair’s infamous war of words lived in infamy in NBA lore.
The second reason Pierce’s interview with Green went viral was for him shedding some light on where precisely his relationship with Ray Allen went wrong.
“That hurt,” he said.
“When it hit, I think we just lost to [the Heat], by the way. I didn’t know he had issues with the contract or starting but the thing is, if you gonna leave us, like give me a call like ‘look P it ain’t working out they not gonna give me the contract I want. They not giving me the role I want so I’m gonna go this route.’
“Okay man I can respect that, you making a business decision for you and your family. But when you never get that call and you leave and go to our rival, I just didn’t feel like there was a respect thing there.”
Pierce has never been one to bite his tongue. Between him finally telling the truth about his infamous bathroom fiasco, his controversial top-five list that omitted Kobe Bryant, and his provocative videos with women, he is always making headlines for something or other.

This was just the latest example of that.
Now that Pierce is older, clearly he is in a place where bygones can just be bygones.
Will his relationship with Allen ever get to what it was prior to their messy Celtics divorce, though? Probably not.
