The Golden State Warriors came into the 2022-23 NBA season with one clear objective: winning a second straight title.
Unfortunately, that train quickly went off the tracks before a single game was played.
Draymond Green’s inexplicable decision to punch teammate Jordan Poole derailed any built up chemistry that may have carried over from last year’s championship run. By both Green’s admission, and Poole’s admission, the relationship has not recovered.
Beyond that, though – the Warriors haven’t looked particularly good together on the court either. Presently the team is 21-21 and sits sixth in the West.
It feels like something needs to change, but Golden State’s front office hasn’t displayed a ton of desire to make any moves ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline.
This past week, NBA insider Sean Deveney spoke with a league executive who painted an interesting picture of how team star Stephen Curry feels about that.
“Steph lets it be known, and he has let it be known that he is going to be 35 [in March], and he does not have time to wait for James Wiseman to make trips to the G League,” the Western Conference exec said.
“He also is not of the mindset that they won a championship last year, and they should be satisfied with that – he will be pissed, frankly, if they do nothing and they lose in the play-in or something.”
It is hard to fault Curry for that viewpoint. He knows his time in the league is limited and that the Warriors’ window is closing. Between Klay Thompson’s contract situation and Green’s contract situation, that Big Three seems to understand they won’t be playing together for much longer.

No one has time to sit back and wait for Wiseman to develop.
Will the Warriors’ front office step up, make a big move and try to salvage what remains of Curry’s prime years?
One way or another, an answer will reveal itself before Feb. 9’s trade deadline.
