Klay Thompson Reacts To Warriors Benching Him (Video)

Klay Thompson is in the midst of one of the worst NBA seasons of his professional career.

With the weight of his Golden State Warriors future clearly bogging him down, the 33-year-old has struggled to get into any sort of a rhythm. He is averaging just 15.4 points per game this season on 39.7 percent shooting. Those numbers are the worst of his career outside his rookie campaign.

On Tuesday night, Thompson was benched during the Warriors’ game against the Phoenix Suns.

After Golden State’s most recent loss, Thompson addressed getting sat down by Steve Kerr in crunch time against the Suns.

“Of course it frustrates me,” he said.

“You think I’m going to chill? I’m friggin’ competitive. At the end of the day I’m one of the most competitive people to put this uniform on.

“I deserved to be benched tonight I played like crap. Twenty games in and I got to catch a rhythm. Give credit to our bench though. They played awesome, guys are stepping up.”

During the five-and-change minutes that Thompson was permitted to play in the fourth quarter of Tuesday night’s game, he wound up with a +/- of -3. At this point, him being on the court is actively detrimental to the Warriors.

Because Kerr called out Draymond Green following the Suns loss, Thompson’s benching may go somewhat unnoticed.

That said, this is a problem that doesn’t appear to be going away.

The 33-year-old seems genuinely washed at this point.

Obviously the NBA season is a long one and anything can happen. That said, it is increasingly looking like Thompson’s last year as a member of the Warriors is going to be one to forget.
