Clippers Offer Troubling Kawhi Leonard Injury Update

Clippers Offer Troubling Kawhi Leonard Injury Update

The Los Angeles Clippers suffered a 118-100 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night, but that wasn’t the biggest story of the night.

Rather, the biggest story of the night proved to be Clippers star, Kawhi Leonard, departing the game midway through and then simply leaving the arena.

After playing just 12 minutes and scoring six points, Leonard had a brief conversation with the coaching staff:

Leonard left the game shortly thereafter.

Following the conclusion of the outing, Clippers head coach Ty Lue offered a troubling update. Apparently, Leonard has been dealing with back issues for quite a while now.

“Wasn’t sure if he was going to go this morning,” Lue added. “But he came to shootaround, got some treatment, did what he had to do and tried to get on the court and played today. It just didn’t loosen up for him.”

Lue was then asked if Leonard would travel with the team for their next game.

“I hope so,” Lue said.

That doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

Los Angeles is currently fourth in the Western Conference, but just 3.5 games separate them from the No. 8 seeded Dallas Mavericks.

After a busy summer that saw him land in the headlines for everything ranging from struggling to buy things at Target to partying in the club with Rick Ross, many wondered how Leonard’s health would hold up during the 2023-24 NBA season.

Thus far, things have actually gone pretty well.

Leonard has played in 58 of the Clippers’ 64 games.

Unfortunately, this back situation seems legitimately concerning.

Will Leonard be able to rally back, stay healthy and lead the Clippers to that ever-elusive first NBA championship in 2024? Time will tell.
