Utah State Cheerleader Who Went Viral During March Madness Identified
A Utah State cheerleader stole the hearts of college basketball fans across the nation this week over her reaction to the Aggies losing to No. 7 ranked Missouri.
Although Utah State put up a valiant effort in the first half of Thursday’s outing, trailing by just four going into halftime, they ultimately got overwhelmed by a more talented Tigers squad in the second half.
That led to a now-viral moment where cameras panned in on one of the Aggies’ cheerleaders as she was visibly distraught.
Two days later, the cheerleader in question has been identified.
Ashlyn Whimpey revealed on social media this weekend that she is in fact the viral cheerleader in question, and that she was emotional because that Missouri game actually marked her final time performing for her school.

The reactions to Whimpey’s post were overwhelmingly positive.
“At least you’re a beautiful cryer,” one fan wrote.
“You can cry on my shoulder bae it’s ok,” another added.
“The problem with the world is people don’t care about the little things. God bless you I felt that,” a third person agreed.
Safe to say a new star has been born.

Big picture, how long will Whimpey’s fame last? It’s tough to say. Right now video of her crying is blowing up more than Nebraska pole vaulter Jess Gardner’s Saturday night party pictures. That is unlikely to continue.
But will she still feel the residual impact from this 15 minutes of fame for a little while longer?

Whimpey, a previously little-known Utah State cheerleader, is currently the biggest non-player star to emerge during March Madness. Will anyone else rise from the shadows to steal that crown in the coming days and weeks? Time will tell.
