Luka Doncic's Dad Reveals How He Really Feels About Lakers
Luka Doncic’s transition to the Los Angeles Lakers has sparked considerable discussion in basketball circles, with his father Sasa Doncic recently adding fuel to the conversation.
In a Slovenian television appearance, the elder Doncic expressed his belief that Los Angeles is the perfect environment for his son, suggesting that Luka was “born for this city” and that it complements his character well.
These comments have generated excitement among Lakers fans who hope the five-time All-Star will remain with the franchise beyond his current contract, which includes a player option in 2026.
Since joining the Lakers, the Slovenian superstar has been adjusting to life outside of Dallas, where he spent the formative years of his NBA career with the Mavericks. Despite the initial shock of being traded, Doncic has maintained his impressive performance levels, averaging over 27 points per game alongside strong rebounding and assist numbers. His partnership with LeBron James has shown flashes of brilliance, with many analysts suggesting their chemistry will only strengthen over time as Doncic becomes more comfortable in his new surroundings.
Sasa Doncic Sees Playoff Promise for Lakers
Luka Doncic’s father, Sasa, has expressed optimism about the Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff prospects. The elder Doncic believes the team has significant potential in the upcoming postseason despite recent struggles.
“When healthy, they’re a difficult matchup for any opponent,” Sasa remarked about the Lakers’ capabilities. He highlighted their previous 18-3 run as evidence of their ceiling, noting that the team has demonstrated they can compete with and defeat any opponent in the league.
Sasa acknowledged that playoff success depends on multiple factors. He specifically mentioned that injuries can dramatically alter a team’s fortunes, emphasizing how the absence of key players might impact their championship hopes. Nevertheless, he maintains strong confidence in the Lakers’ ability to make a deep playoff run.
The Lakers’ current form presents concerns, however:
- Three consecutive losses, most recently to Orlando (118-106)
- Record stands at 43-28
- Slumping at a critical point in the season
This downturn comes at a particularly challenging time as teams position themselves for playoff seeding. The Lakers will need to address these issues quickly, with their next opportunity coming against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday evening.
Despite these challenges, Sasa’s comments reflect a belief that the Lakers possess the necessary talent and experience to overcome their current difficulties. With proper health and execution, the team’s defensive potential and offensive firepower could indeed make them formidable playoff contenders as the postseason approaches.
