The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Sacramento Kings 117-92 on Tuesday night.
After trailing for the first half of action, LA came back strong in the third quarter and eventually rallied to improve to 12-11 on the year.
One of the standout moments from this outing proved to be a confrontation between head coach Frank Vogel and big man DeAndre Jordan on the bench.

Jordan would not play in the second half, with the majority of the minutes down low going to Dwight Howard. Interestingly enough, Howard had been told prior to the game that he actually wouldn’t be receiving too much playing time in this one.
Dwight Howard tells @LakersReporter on the walk-off that Frank Vogel told him he wasn’t going to play tonight, and he was “kind of down.” But he says he stayed ready even though he wasn’t expecting to play, and was happy he was able to make an impact.

Obviously circumstances changed. Howard finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks in 35 minutes of action.
After the game, Vogel tried to minimize what happened between him and Jordan, stressing that Howard’s increased playing time was moreso the byproduct of his familiarity with the team’s defensive schemes.
“[Howard’s] more familiar with what we do,” he said.
Given that Vogel is very much coaching for his job at this point, nobody can blame him for making the calls that increase the Lakers’ odds of winning in the present. It also explains why he has been getting increasingly feisty with his players, like when he called out Russell Westbrook recently for his bad shots.

Will this new, more aggressive version of Vogel be able to turn LA’s season around? Time will tell.
