Lakers Considering Firing Frank Vogel After Slow Start?

Lakers Considering Firing Frank Vogel After Slow Start?

The Los Angeles Lakers came into the 2021-22 NBA season as title favorites. It was them and the Brooklyn Nets. Both struggled in the early going, but the Nets quickly rebounded and now sit atop the Eastern Conference.

LA, meanwhile, continues to struggle.

The Lakers are currently 10-10 on the year – good for ninth place in the West. Along the way the team has been forced to deal with embarrassment after embarrassment after embarrassment.

Apparently all the failure and humiliation has taken its toll on head coach Frank Vogel’s job standing.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Vogel is very much on the hot seat.

“There is also rising buzz in coaching circles about the pressure mounting on Frank Vogel given the Lakers’ worrisome 10-10 start … given L.A.’s lack of flexibility to make roster changes,” he said.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Vogel’s short-term future has been brought up. A few months back, there was talk of how he was coaching for his job in the early going of this season. If that has in fact been the case, then it stands to reason that Lakers brass probably isn’t very happy with the results they’re seeing.

Twenty games into the season is generally too early to make any rash decisions, but the Lakers’ title window is a small one. No season can be wasted – and that may spur the front office to make hard moves a lot faster than anyone would expect.
