Stephen A. Smith Tells Tim Tebow Haters To Stop Crying
Stephen A. Smith told Tim Tebow haters to stop crying in a recent segment on ESPN.
Smith, the host of First Take, took to the airwaves on Monday to state that all of the vitriol that has been directed at Tebow in recent days over his comments on paying college athletes has been misplaced.
Last week, Tebow suggested that paying college athletes feeds into a culture of selfishness that permeates throughout professional sports.

“Now we’re changing it from us, to we, to my university … to it’s just about me,” Tebow said Friday.
“It’s about your team, it’s about your university, it’s about where my family wanted to go, it’s about where my grandfather had a dream of seeing Florida win an SEC championship,” he added.

“And you’re taking that away so that young kids can make a dollar.”
Naturally, proponents of paying college athletes and their allies in the media had an absolute field day with this.

Response to Tebow’s comments was overwhelmingly negative over the past few days.
On Monday, Smith decided to clear the matter up once and for all.

“I’m very disgusted by it,” Smith began, speaking of the backlash towards Tebow.
“Let me be very, very clear. I don’t agree with everything that Tim Tebow said. Tim Tebow is basically raving about amateurism,” he continued.
“I would make the argument that amateurism doesn’t exist really in college football and college basketball. There’s just too much money that’s being made.
“But I totally respect and appreciate the perspective from which he came from,” he added.

“This is a guy that basically love amateurism and doesn’t want the sport tarnished by who are getting paid …
“But to castigate this man and excoriate him, to me, in that fashion, was utterly ridiculous.”
