Mark Dantonio shocked the college football world on Tuesday when he abruptly retired.
Dantonio’s departure in itself was not all that surprising, but the timing was.
Everything starting with alleged NCAA violations and ending with various financial incentives have been cited as the reasons for his timing.
Either way, Michigan State now needs to move on.
One popular name thrown out there as a possible replacement for Dantonio has been Narduzzi.
Narduzzi served as a defensive coordinator for Michigan State for a seven-year stretch between 2007 and 2014. He was incredibly successful in that capacity.
In that span, Michigan State won two Big Ten championships and a Rose Bowl.
It would make a lot of sense for him to step in the vacancy left behind by Dantonio.
On Wednesday, Narduzzi was asked by the media how he would feel about taking over at Michigan State.
The 53-year-old did not seem overly receptive.
“Rumors are rumors,” he said.
“I can’t address what’s going on up there, it’s fresh. They have decisions to make. It’s my ultimate goal to be here at Pitt.”

Aside from Narduzzi, Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell has also been mentioned as a possible replacement for Dantonio.
Much like Narduzzi, he has brushed the rumors off for now.
