LSU Firing Bo Pelini After Latest Loss?
LSU Firing Bo Pelini After Latest Loss?
Bo Pelini was hired as LSU’s defensive coordinator this past offseason. The expectation was that he would seamlessly slip into the vacancy left behind by Dave Aranda, who left to become Baylor’s head coach.
So far, Pelini isn’t off to a great start.
The Tigers fell to Missouri 45-41 on Saturday in an outing that saw a complete defensive collapse from Pelini and Co. The loss drops LSU to 1-2 on the year.
Head coach Ed Orgeron admitted after the game that his defensive coordinator was not delivering.

“I love Bo,” he said.
“I think Bo’s gonna be a great defensive coordinator. He’s done it before. But we have to get better. There’s some things that we need to fix and we need to coach better. There’s some things that we need to look at schematically.”

LSU fans were absolutely livid with what they saw.

#LSU is 1-2.
The defense is … very, very bad.
Myles Brennan threw for 345 yards and 430 yards with a combined 7 TD. Literally nothing else he can do.

And they played Miss State, Vanderbilt and Missouri.

Bo Pelini is a mad scientist. It’s not hard to see why LSU would want a schemer like this in charge of the defense. Look at all this cushion. Very nice read by Mizzou’s QB to beat it for a TD pic.twitter.com/Fa4HLiWnvB

Mizzou takes the lead late. How does LSU not fire Bo Pelini? Their defense is a total catastrophe.

🔥 Take: Bo Pelini is one and done at LSU.

Bo Pelini was a questionable DC hire for LSU in the first place. I’m convinced that Coach O is a mediocre coach who needs elite coaches surrounding him to be successful.

In LSU’s two losses — the opening game loss to Mississippi State and today’s loss to Missouri — Bo Pelini’s defense has given up a combined 1,218 yards and 89 points.
Missouri averaged 8.6 yards per play today.

LSU signed Pelini to a three-year deal that will pay him around $2.3 million annually, so they are unlikely to fire him this weekend. However, every program has a limit – and the Tigers are rapidly approaching theirs.
Based on his early performance, it’s probably safe to assume that Pelini won’t be around for too much longer.
