College Basketball Coach Complains About Bronny James

Bronny James has quietly turned into one of the most sought-after high school basketball prospects in the nation over the past year.

While some would be quick to credit the fact that his dad is LeBron James for this, recent events would suggest something different. Just this week, Bronny was selected to play in the very respected McDonald’s All-American Games.

Beyond that acknowledgement of his skills, there is also the fact that Bronny has been a highly-ranked prospect for more than a year now. Sure, his ratings have fluctuated – but that is par for the course in this process.

Understandably, multiple colleges have been clamoring for Bronny’s services. While some have reported that he is only seriously considering three schools at this point, the reality is that nine universities are still very much in the running.

Because of what a hot commodity Bronny is nowadays it seems understood that it would be harder to recruit him than lesser-known prospects. Apparently, some college coaches are quite miffed about that, though.

One ACC coach expressed his frustration this past week.

“I tried to get involved, but you had to jump through a thousand hoops just to get to the mom,” the ACC coach told On3. “You’re not allowed to talk to the kid. You have to schedule a time on Tuesday or Thursday with the publicist just to talk to the mom.”

While some degree of annoyance is understandable, the complaint also seems a little tone-deaf.

Yes, it’s harder to get in touch with LeBron James’ son – that is how things go. You have to work in a more unique fashion to recruit him because recruiting him will bring a very unique spotlight on your institution.

There is currently one school that is seen as a frontrunner for Bronny, but the reality is that everyone is still in the hunt. The James family hasn’t made any decisions yet.

Part of Bronny’s allure is that he isn’t just a supremely talented player on the court. Yes, he has that going for him as well. But beyond that, he is also very mentally tough.

It doesn’t matter whether he sees the Kardashian sisters at his games or what, he always remains focused as ever. Nobody can rattle him, including his opponents.

A lot of youngsters would have shrunk under all the media attention Bronny has received over the years, particularly when they started doing stuff like digging into his love life, but he has remained resilient throughout.

The kid is unflappable.

Time will tell where Bronny ultimately goes to college, but it seems pretty clear that he is worth all the hype he is getting right now.

Any college coach that deems his recruitment “too much work” probably doesn’t deserve all the benefits that Bronny’s enrollment would bestow upon his university.
