Russell Wilson’s inaugural campaign with the Denver Broncos did not go according to plan.
After the franchise gave up Drew Lock, Noah Fant, Shelby Harris, two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a 2022 fifth-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks, they ended up going 5-12 and finishing last in the AFC West.
Wilson specifically, who signed a 5-year, $242.6 million contract – with a $50 million signing bonus and $161 million guaranteed – had the worst season of his career. He looked absolutely cooked on the field and dealt with some messy situations off it.
This past week Wilson’s wife, internationally renowned pop star Ciara, took to social media to pay tribute to her husband.

“This season has been a roller coaster ride like no other,” she wrote.
“I’ve watched you endure so much and keep your head up high through it all! Your faith, belief, and confidence never wavered! I heard a lot of things people said you’re not, but what I do know is a Winner is someone that gets back up when they’re knocked down, some one who doesn’t stop believing.
“Someone who embraces adversity and stays neutral through it all. Someone who can’t be influenced by the words or opinions of others. Someone who loves loving others, serving others, and is always there for his family. All of that you are! You’re always Winning! I’m so proud of you.”
Ciara acknowledged that the 2022-23 NFL season didn’t go the way they or the Broncos likely envisioned it. That said, in her eyes that doesn’t change Wilson’s most important qualities.
“Proud of the husband, father, and man that you are,” she continued.
“Truly grateful to be on the beautiful journey of Greatness with you! I know this season wasn’t exactly how you envisioned and wanted it to be, but I have no doubt The best is ahead! Keep being you.”
Wilson and Ciara have been put through the ringer over the past year. Between NFL players going off on them, fans mocking them over their vacation photos and having to run away from Future at an event, it has been one thing after another.
Through it all, though – the one thing that has remained constant is the pair’s love for one another.
One needs to look no further than their public displays of affection towards each other to see it.

Obviously the 2022-23 NFL season didn’t go the way either Wilson or Ciara wanted it to.
But with Sean Payton onboard for next year, everything could change.
Will Wilson, Ciara and the Broncos be able to get back on track in 2023-24? Time will tell.
