Arch Manning Recruitment: 1 School Emerges As Clear Favorite

High school football phenom Arch Manning appears to be zeroing in on which program he wants to play for in college.

The madness surrounding Manning’s recruitment process thus far has been unparalleled. You would have to go back to LeBron James in the early 2000s to find anything comparable.

Last November, a video of Manning giving some girl a commitment to her school in bed went mega-viral – accruing millions upon millions of views. That is how weird the proceedings have gotten.

That said, clarity seems to be emerging about what will happen next. This week, a clear favorite emerged in the Arch Manning Sweepstakes.

For a while now three programs were viewed as the likeliest options for Manning. The gap between them was infinitesimal. However, that all changed on Monday.

According to the On3.com Recruiting Prediction Machine, Texas now has a 39.6 percent chance of coming away with the heir to the Manning throne.

That aligns with the impression many got after Manning’s visit to Texas this weekend:

The Longhorns obviously present Manning with an opportunity that the likes of Alabama and Georgia do not: building a winner where there hasn’t been one in a long time.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian seemed to come away from this past weekend with a positive impression.

“When you recruit high-level players, we can’t get impatient because we don’t have guys committing left and right,” Sarkisian said.

“We could get guys to commit but they might not be the right guys for our program. We’re recruiting hard. I think our staff is doing a great job. Obviously, we had a bunch of guys in last week, we’ll have more in this weekend and we got to make sure we keep doing a really good job of selling our program and our university, the city of Austin.

“All of the great things that we have to offer. Our staff, our team, our culture, and over time, if we do it the right way, we’ll end up signing a great class. We’re in the very early stages of what we’re doing but I think we’re doing it the right way and we’re progressing at the right kind of level.”

Right now it feels like there are three to five schools that are very real suitors for Manning. Beyond that, one prominent program has officially been removed from the running and another dark-horse keeps hovering in the background.

That said, Texas appears to be the clear favorite.

Last season Manning amassed 1,913 passing yards and 26 passing touchdowns in 10 games played. Beyond that, he also recorded 381 rushing yards and six rushing scores. He is a difference-maker, there is no two ways about it. Plus, unlike some of his contemporaries, he doesn’t come with any weird bedroom fetishes that people know of. He’s all about football.

Where will Manning ultimately end up when it’s all said and done?

Time will tell.
