Warriors’ Big Trade Plans For Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard Revealed

Warriors’ Big Trade Plans For Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard Revealed

The Golden State Warriors have been mired by injuries over the past couple of seasons. Stephen Curry missed the majority of 2019-20, and then Klay Thompson missed the entirety of both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

Without their best players, the Warriors missed the playoffs in consecutive years.

In an effort to stop the bleeding, the organization has made it something of an open secret that they’re seeking out a blockbuster deal. The Cleveland Cavaliers were originally named as potential trade partners, as were the Philadelphia 76ers. Unfortunately, nothing has materialized on that front.

There was also initially some chatter about the Warriors making a big play for Damian Lillard, but appears as though that deal will not come together either.

“The Golden State Warriors don’t believe Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard would be open to joining the team via trade as both clubs look to rebound after disappointing finishes to their respective seasons,” Blake Schuster of Bleacher Report wrote recently.

Instead, according to Marcus Thompson of The Athletic, both Curry and Thompson are pushing hard for the Warriors to acquire Bradley Beal.

“Some on the Golden State Warriors are watching closely the next move of Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal,” he wrote.

“Should he become available, he’s at the top of the offseason wishlist. The Warriors’ trio of stars — Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson — have made it clear to management they want the franchise to focus on the pursuit of a championship, even to consider using their two lottery picks to get someone who can help immediately, sources confirmed.

“Warriors general manager Bob Myers said their goal this offseason is to add more of a veteran presence. Should the Warriors go that route, Beal, the Washington Wizards’ guard who made third-team All-NBA, is deemed to be the best player and best fit for the Warriors among the players who could potentially be available this offseason.”

Beal would be a tremendous pick-up for Golden State, though the same fit questions that are present regarding Lillard and Curry would be prevalent here. Still, any time you have the opportunity to nab someone of Beal’s caliber, especially now that the Wizards have made the asking price known, you do it and figure out the details later.
