TikTok superstar Addison Rae sparked outrage this past week with a ‘controversial’ tweet about the UFC.
In the lead-up to Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier facing off on Saturday night, the UFC has been doing everything in its power to promote the big event.
One PR method they’ve really invested heavily in?
Getting celebs who aren’t normally associated with the promotion to hype it up.
That’s where Rae comes in.
On Friday, she sent out this tweet:
I studied broadcast journalism in college for 3 whole months to prepare for this moment pic.twitter.com/5Z95OTSVTA

Naturally, the internet didn’t react kindly to it.
so your taking a job from someone who delicates their time and money to get such a job, whereas you get it because of fame. we all know that if she wasn’t famous, 3 months wouldn’t cut it.

just 3 months??? i think someone more successful that has studied at least a whole year for this deserves it but ofc let’s pick the lil famous tik tok girl that records herself dancing

Obviously this particular sports-TikTok scandal isn’t as exciting as when a boxer literally got busted cheating on his pregnant partner with a TikTok star, but it’s still pretty funny.
Will the UFC ultimately be put off by the reaction Rae is getting? Unlikely. Mind you, this is a promotion where one champion blatantly sexually harassed his opponent in a fight, another got kicked out of a gym for taking her pants off, and one of the guys headlining this week’s festivities walks around with a watch of two people having sex.
Clearly, the UFC isn’t easily offended. As such, it’s unlikely that the backlash towards Rae will sway them one way or the other.
Since Conor McGregor is so quick to talk about Dustin Poirier’s wife… https://t.co/dutD0Q3zac
