Paige Spiranac Offers Surprising Phil Mickelson Confession

Paige Spiranac Offers Surprising Phil Mickelson Confession

Over the past few years Paige Spiranac has become one of the most prominent personalities in all of golf media. With more than 3.2 million followers on Instagram, she boasts the sort of reach and influence that few in the space have.

With that in mind, many were shocked to learn this week that Phil Mickelson, one of the biggest stars of his generation, has Spiranac blocked.

The news came out when Mickelson landed in hot water over his now-infamous Saudi Arabia comments.

In a November 2021 interview with Alan Shipnuck for his biography, “Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar,” Mickelson suggested that he would be open to joining a much-discussed Saudi Super League due to its potential to be “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape how the PGA Tour operates.”

Why was this problematic? Because he did it in the same breath where he pointed out Saudi Arabia’s spotty record on human rights and the widespread belief that they killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

“They’re scary … to get involved with,” Mickelson told Shipnuck. “We know they killed Khashoggi and have a horrible record on human rights. They execute people over there for being gay. Knowing all of this, why would I even consider it? Because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape how the PGA Tour operates.”

How does Spiranac fit into all this? Well, on Tuesday Mickelson came out and apologized – only she couldn’t see it.

Naturally, fans were puzzled by this revelation.

Interestingly enough, Mickelson’s decision to block her isn’t a recent happening. It dates back to at least last year.

For what it’s worth, Spiranac didn’t miss much with the apology. It was all fairly boilerplate stuff.

“My actions throughout this process have always been with the best interest of golf, my peers, sponsors, and fans,” Mickelson said in the statement.

“I used words I sincerely regret that do not reflect my true feelings or intentions. It was reckless, I offended people, and I am deeply sorry for my choice of words.”

Mickelson also announced that he was stepping away for a bit, whatever that means. In addition, he and his long-running sponsor KPMG also stated that they were severing their 14-year-old relationship.

As for Spiranac, she doesn’t seem too torn up about not seeing Mickelson’s messages. She just went viral this past week for her blunt reaction to Tiger Woods’ now-viral confession – so clearly she is fine.

Whether she is giving her sincere reaction to the Super Bowl halftime show or triggering Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans and Notre Dame fans with a one tweet – she is a legit news maker at this point.

No matter if Spiranac is posting her seductive photosracy Halloween costumes or provocative opinions on dudes gazing at her chest, she always finds a way to go viral.

Plus, her general Instagram posts are always a hit as well:

For better or worse, Spiranac has a massive audience within the golf community.

And when Mickelson goes on his inevitable image rehab tour sooner rather than later, he may regret blocking her.

Spiranac’s audience is very valuable, and Mickelson will likely learn that lesson the hard way in the next few months.
