Tom Brady and Bill Belichick both played an instrumental role in the New England Patriots winning six championships in the span of two decades.
Their dynasty will forever live on in the pantheon of sports history. That being said, because both were constantly there for the title runs, nobody ever truly knew who deserved more credit for them.
Some believed it was Brady. Others viewed Belichick as the key.
When Brady finally departed New England, two years before he retired from the sport for good, he went out and won himself his own Super Bowl.
Belichick? Not only has he not even come close to that, but he is at the helm of arguably the worst team in the league this year.
Without Brady to help him, Belichick has quite literally found himself the subject of mockery and ridicule from coaches and execs around the NFL.
Recently, Brady delved into the complicated topic of why precisely Belichick can’t seem to win without him.
“I think that he’s got a very consistent approach that he’s always taken and it’s the right approach,” Brady said on his “Let’s Go!” podcast.
“It’s ‘try to prepare the players, give them the best opportunity to succeed.’ You get out there on the field, and in the end, the coaches, once the play is called in, the players got to go do it.”
Brady didn’t stop there, though.
“It takes a great coaching staff to win, it takes great players to win, it takes great front office support to win,” he continued.
“It’s an organizational win. It’s an organizational loss. To [put a] a win or loss to one player — and they did that for me a lot with winning — and I always say, ‘It’s not about me, it’s about us.’”
While Brady’s kind words are no doubt appreciated by Belichick, it is also hard to ignore the facts at hand. New England has lost three straight games this season and are the worst offensive squad in the league.
Given how bad Belichick has historically been against Josh Allen, it is also fair to assume that the Buffalo Bills will beat the Patriots this weekend. That will give Belichick his longest ever losing streak with the franchise.
There is a reason team owner Robert Kraft has quietly been signaling an openness to making a big change.

Belichick has been that bad.
And no matter how much Brady may try to spin it, there is no denying that what is happening now is doing irreparable damage to Belichick’s legacy.
Will Belichick be able to right this Patriots ship at some point in the foreseeable future? Or is he just doomed to eternal losing with Brady? An answer one way or the other will reveal itself over the next year and change.
