Jets Targeting 3 Star Wide Receivers In Blockbuster NFL Trade

After striking out in their effort to acquire Tyreek Hill last week, the New York Jets have set their sights on three other star wide receivers.

For better or worse, it appears as though the Jets’ front office believes it has its quarterback of the future in Zach Wilson. They spent a high pick on him last year, and although he seems to be having some issues with his girl and his mom, he has shown enough on-the-field promise in his rookie campaign to earn a starting position as a sophomore.

The question now becomes: who will Wilson throw to?

He already seemingly lost some of the locker room last year, so fresh blood is much-needed.

According to ESPN NFL insider Rich Cimini, the Jets have their eye on three blockbuster trade options to give Wilson some help.

“The Jets will have to address their wide-receiver issue with a high draft pick … unless another Hill situation arises,” he wrote.

“A handful of star receivers are entering the final year of their rookie contract, including DK Metcalf (Seattle Seahawks), A.J. Brown (Tennessee Titans) and Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers). The market is blowing up, which might make it harder for their teams to re-sign them… At this point, there’s no indication that any of them are available, but the Jets are keeping an eye on the situations, just in case.”

Interestingly enough, a recent tweet by Brown made many speculate regarding his future.

Read into that as you will.

Samuel would also be a massive pick up for New York, should the front office be able to pull that acquisition off. Last year he amassed 1,405 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns, as well as 365 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.

Finally, Metcalf is also an interesting name to watch. He has said all the right things post-Russell Wilson, but it’s hard to believe that he legitimately wants to be catching balls from Drew Lock next year.

The Jets’ receiving situation is something to keep an eye on for the next few weeks. Clearly an upgrade is necessary. But this group doesn’t really evoke much in the way of faith for obvious reasons.

What will the front office ultimately be able to accomplish? Time will tell.
