Jacksonville Jaguars Trade Trevor Lawrence To Seattle Seahawks In Blockbuster Trade Proposal

The Seattle Seahawks face a pivotal decision regarding their quarterback situation.

Geno Smith has been at the helm for over two seasons, but questions linger about his long-term viability as a franchise quarterback.

While Smith recently achieved a milestone victory against the San Francisco 49ers, his age and contract status create uncertainty about his future with the team.

With limited options available in free agency and the upcoming draft, the Seahawks may need to explore trade possibilities to secure their quarterback of the future.

One intriguing scenario involves Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The young signal-caller recently signed a lucrative five-year contract, but speculation has emerged about a potential trade to Seattle.

Such a move could significantly impact the Seahawks’ offense and salary cap situation for years to come.

Lawrence’s mobility and athleticism could provide a significant upgrade to the Seahawks’ offense.

His ability to work outside the pocket and scramble would add a dynamic element that current quarterback Geno Smith lacks.

Seattle’s talented receiving corps, featuring DK Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Tyler Lockett, would offer Lawrence a strong supporting cast.

This group could help the young quarterback showcase the “generational” talent that made him the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

However, Lawrence’s massive contract presents a significant hurdle for any potential trade.

His deal includes hefty cap hits in future years:

Year Cap Hit
2029 $78.5 million
2030 $75 million

These figures could strain Seattle’s finances if Lawrence fails to meet expectations.

While Lawrence’s potential remains high, his current production doesn’t fully reflect his perceived ceiling.

The Seahawks must weigh this potential against the financial implications of acquiring him.

Geno Smith’s more affordable contract is a key factor in this equation.

Seattle saves approximately $30 million annually with Smith under center compared to Lawrence’s deal. This extra cap space allows the Seahawks to address other roster needs, potentially improving their chances of a deep playoff run.

The decision between pursuing Lawrence and retaining Smith involves complex considerations:

  • Lawrence’s long-term potential
  • Smith’s current effectiveness
  • Salary cap implications
  • Roster construction flexibility

At present, the financial flexibility provided by Smith’s contract may outweigh the allure of Lawrence’s potential.

The Seahawks can use the cost savings to strengthen their offensive line and fill other crucial roster gaps.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ willingness to part with Lawrence remains uncertain.

Any trade would likely require a substantial return given their recent investment in the young quarterback.

New York Giants Another Trade Option For Trevor Lawrence

While the Seahawks make a ton of sense for Lawrence, it is worth remembering that they are not the only option for his services. Just last week, he was linked to a blockbuster trade involving the NY Giants.

WFAN’s Tiki Barber made an interesting argument in favor of the move for his former squad.

“The only way this works is if the Jaguars decide they are moving on from Doug Pederson and are gonna strip everything down,” he said. “They may want to start over at quarterback. The guys running the [New York] Giants need to consider that as an option. Figure out the package it’s going to take and trade for Trevor Lawrence.”

“He’s only 25 years old. He has the talent…he hasn’t had consistency in his coaching staff,” Barber continued. “If you’re worried about the turnovers, what was Brian Daboll’s greatest accomplishment with Daniel Jones?

“It gives them a chance to find success quicker. They need success. They can’t keep throwing losing records on their resume.”

Reaction to Barber’s proposal were mixed, though.

New York Jets May Trade For Trevor Lawrence

With Aaron Rodgers’ time as a member of the New York Jets concluding after this year, Lawrence has emerged as a possibility for the New York Jets as well.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic said as much this week.

“Replacing Rodgers won’t be easy. The free-agent QB market is lacking, with Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson among the top names — though Wilson is expected to stay with the [Pittsburgh] Steelers and the [Minnesota] Vikings could decide to keep Darnold if he’s willing to be a backup,” Russini wrote. “The Jets could explore trading for Trevor Lawrence or drafting a quarterback, though the 2025 draft class appears weak.”

One way or another, there will be no shortage of interest when it comes to Lawrence following this season.
