Aaron Rodgers has been visibly unhappy with the Green Bay Packers for years now. That said, despite him openly expressing his displeasure with the franchise, nobody was expecting the chaos that unfolded in the lead-up to the 2021 NFL Draft.
Last Thursday, reports emerged that Rodgers told Green Bay he was done with the organization. He either wanted to be traded or he’d retire.
The move shocked the NFL community.
Almost immediately, one serious contender for Rodgers’ services emerged.
Now that the dust has settled a bit there are two teams that are clearly the frontrunners to nab Rodgers should the Packers agree to trade him.
According to Peter King of NBC Sports, those two teams are the Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos.
“I would expect Rodgers to not participate in any offseason work with the Packers, and to hope the Packers would change their minds about trading him,” he wrote.
“Denver would still be an option, I think, and maybe Las Vegas. (Rodgers-Mahomes twice a year for the next four years, maybe?) Or, maybe with four to six weeks to simmer, and an olive branch from Green Bay brass (Rodgers loves Packer franchise history), he’ll go back. But right now I doubt it.”
There are obviously a lot of reasons why Rodgers is unhappy with the Packers. Last year’s draft is clearly a big one. But apparently it’s not the only issue.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the release of Jake Kumerow also played a role.

“Rodgers wanted to be more involved in personnel decisions…” Rapoport said. “One thing that drove Rodgers nuts was when the organization released Jake Kumerow just a day after he praised him publicly. Described as a little bit of a death knell in the relationship.”

Back in January, six teams expressed interest in trading for Rodgers but were ultimately rebuffed.
Will things be different this time around? Time will tell.
