Justin Fields’ time with the Chicago Bears could be coming to an end.
With the No. 1 overall pick firmly locked up, Chicago has the opportunity to get a fresh start.
Caleb Williams out of USC has been touted by some as the next Patrick Mahomes, despite his attitude issues, poor play against good teams, and weird foot-related preferences.
If the Bears decide to move on from Fields (who isn’t into any odd foot-related stuff and has a normal girlfriend) and add Williams to the roster, two teams appear to be the early frontrunners for the former Ohio State star’s services.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Atlanta Falcons is one squad to keep an eye on.
“The trade option with the Falcons will be even more intriguing if former Bears GM Ryan Pace is still there,” the report read.
“Pace went to the Falcons after the Bears fired him at the end of the 2021 season and now is their director of player personnel. One of his last big swings with the Bears was trading up to draft Fields 11th overall in 2021.”
Atlanta could also be appealing to Fields himself.
“It could appeal to Fields, as well, though he probably won’t have any say in where he goes,” the report continued.
“He is from Kennesaw, Georgia, and his dad had Falcons season tickets. He grew up rooting for Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. The Falcons also have an offensive-minded head coach in Arthur Smith, assuming he is retained.”
If not the Falcons, the New England Patriots are another team to keep an eye on. It goes without saying that Bill Belichick’s time with the organization is done. That said – he isn’t the only one on the outs. Both Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe have proven that they are not proper NFL starters.
Fields could be the perfect fit the Patriots.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the asking price for Fields is a matter of public record.
“The consensus in an informal poll of league evaluators is that Fields would be worth a second- or third-round pick in a pre-draft trade,” Fowler wrote.

“When compared to former top-10 picks recently traded, that’s better than Trey Lance, whom Dallas acquired from San Francisco for a fourth-round pick, but slightly worse than Sam Darnold, who, along with a sixth-round pick, went from the Jets to Carolina for second- and fourth-rounders.”
Will either the Falcons or Patriots be willing to step up and pay the toll for a player like Fields? An answer one way or the other will emerge over the next few weeks.
