Patrick Mahomes’ tweet went viral on Friday night, and it is easy to see why.

Heading into this weekend, the big question on the minds of NFL fans was whether Mahomes would return to action.

The reigning MVP has been out for the past two weeks after suffering a dislocated kneecap on Oct. 17 against the Denver Broncos.

While Kansas City could likely still defeat the Tennessee Titans this weekend without their young star quarterback, having him back would certainly be a lift.

Well, on Friday night, Mahomes sent out a tweet indicating that he would be back this Sunday.

The Chiefs then followed his tweet up with a tweet of their own.

“I knew I had a chance once I talked to those doctors and they said as long as I was functioning well, moving well, I could play this week,” Mahomes said.

“Coach [Andy] Reid still wanted me to take it day by day. I went out here in practice and took the reps and I haven’t had any pain or any setbacks, and so as long as we keep going with that I’m glad to be back out there.”

Mahomes also made it clear that he would not be risking his health if he felt there was a chance of re-injuring himself. He just does not feel like that is the case.

“Hopefully it was kind of a fluke thing,” he said.

“I’ll always be I guess a tad bit higher [at risk] than the regular person, but whenever you’re out on the football field, there’s always a chance of injury.”

Kansas City ultimately won that Broncos game where Mahomes got hurt, but they then went 1-1 in the two games after – losing to the Green Bay Packers and winning against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Chiefs currently sit atop the AFC West, but the Oakland Raiders are coming in hot, so getting Mahomes back will certainly provide the team with a much-needed boost.
