Earl Thomas has had an eventful year up to this point.
Earlier this week, he was released by the Baltimore Ravens following an altercation with a teammate. Additional stories have emerged since then about how the team wasn’t particularly fond of the future Hall of Famer even prior to the fight.
While Thomas’ next move is now very much in doubt as it pertains to on the field happenings, it is equally in flux off the field as well.
In April 2020, officers were called to a Texas home where they reportedly found Thomas’ wife, Nina, brandishing a knife. They described her as “chasing a shirtless black male, later identified as Earl Thomas, with a pistol in his hand.”
Apparently, according to multiple reports, Nina had done some snooping on Thomas’ social media account and found out that her husband had rented an Airbnb. Upon arrival, she reportedly found him in bed with a woman and his brother.
Nina is said to have grabbed Thomas’ gun with the goal of frightening him, but ultimately got it wrestled away from her.
According to the police officers who responded at the time, Nina maintained that she had removed the gun’s magazine and believed doing so prevented it from going off.
However, she was apparently “unaware that the gun had a round in the chamber.”
This week, TMZ reported that Nina’s court date for this incident has been set for September 3.

Earl Thomas’ Future Very Much In Doubt
As his wife deals with the fallout from April’s incident, questions loom regarding what happens next for Thomas professionally.
If the 31-year-old had simply been kicked off the Ravens for one altercation with a teammate, he would be an easy sell for any one of a number of other franchises. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case.
Thomas wore out his welcome with Baltimore, a legitimate Super Bowl contender, way before last week’s squabble ever went down.
So what comes next?
Despite Thomas’ baggage, a handful of destinations still make a lot of sense for him.
The Dallas Cowboys are an organization that he has expressed interest in playing for, and one that has previously shown a desire to have him on the roster.
When asked about Thomas’ status this week, head coach Mike McCarthy was non-committal.
“We’re very confident in where we are (with) the 80-man roster,” he said.
“I have nothing really to report.”
On topic of S Earl Thomas, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said team had personnel meeting Saturday. “We’re very confident in where we are (with) the 80-man roster. …I have nothing really to report.” But McCarthy has discussed Earl Thomas with Will McClay. “We read the news, too.”

Still, there is a reason why everyone is discussing this potential union – it makes too much sense to ignore.
Obviously Dallas just brought in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and has Xavier Woods who they are heavily invested in, but Thomas would simply allow both players to have more room to operate. There is a reason why the Cowboys were in the Jamal Adams Sweepstakes a few weeks back, the secondary still needs upgrading.
The New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers would also make a lot of logical sense, but the latter club has already come out and said they would not be pursuing Thomas.
“Nothing against Earl but there wasn’t interest,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday.
“We have our team and we’re excited about our group.”
Kyle Shanahan said #49ers did not have interest in Earl Thomas:
“Nothing against Earl but there wasn’t interest. We have our team and we’re excited about our group.”

So where does that leave Thomas? A man without a country, at a moment.
At the end of the day, Thomas is too talented to never get another shot again. Someone will pick him up, and more likely than not that someone will be the Cowboys. But when that happens, what transpired with the Ravens cannot repeat itself.
This is probably Thomas’ last chance. If he messes up, nobody will give him another one.
