The Carolina Panthers defeated the Houston Texans 24-9 on Thursday Night Football.
Unfortunately, the game did not come and go without controversy.
Notably absent on Houston’s side, despite them desperately needing a competent quarterback, was Deshaun Watson. The 26-year-old of course has been out of action for the entirety of this young season after demanding a trade and finding himself at the center of more than 20 sexual misconduct claims.
During Thursday’s game, announcer Joe Buck went off on Watson in a way that immediately garnered attention on social media.
The fan reactions spoke for themselves:

Joe Buck: “And here comes Davis Mills, who unlike Deshaun Watson is not accused of sexually assaulting over 20 women.”
Troy Aikman: “You’re right Joe I really respect this kid’s ability to not sexually assault women.”

Shoutout to Joe Buck and Troy Aikman for speaking on Deshaun Watson and not just pretending it’s not weird as hell for a top 5 QB in the world to be sitting. Not acknowledging it does way more harm than good.

Here are the facts: Watson has been accused of sexual misconduct and sexual assault in 22 civil lawsuits. He has offered some interesting excuses in his defense, along with a bunch of text messages that he claims exonerate him. Fans can draw their own conclusions based on the evidence at hand.
Either way, though – clearly this is a very odd situation all the way around. And the fact that Buck was brave enough to address it deserves respect.
