Although a league without Manning in it next season will certainly be unusual, this decision was expected
Manning served most of last year as a backup to rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.
Following the conclusion of the season, he admitted that he did not have much fun in a reserve capacity. He was interested in pursuing a starting role with a different organization, but ultimately no opportunity presented itself.
Manning will retire as a two-time Super Bowl champion, two-time Super Bowl MVP and four-time Pro Bowler.
After being drafted by the Giants in 2004, he spent the entirety of his career in New York.
