Odell Beckham Jr. Signs With Giants in Stunning Return to Where It All Started

Odell Beckham Jr. is going home. The New York Giants confirmed Monday they signed the veteran wide receiver to a one-year deal, capping one of the more emotional stories of the 2026 NFL offseason.

Beckham will get the chance to compete for a roster spot in training camp. That is the realistic framing for a 33-year-old receiver who has not played since 2024 and has battled injuries for most of the last four years. But none of that lessens the moment.

This is the franchise where Beckham became a star. From 2014 to 2018, he caught everything thrown his way and turned the Giants into appointment television. His 2016 season was peak OBJ, when he hauled in 101 receptions for 1,367 yards.

How the Deal Came Together

It almost did not happen. Earlier on Monday, reports came out that the Giants had signed veteran Braxton Berrios after an open tryout that included Beckham and several other receivers. The early read was that New York had passed on OBJ.

Then the script flipped. The Giants decided to take on multiple options and added Beckham to the mix anyway. Beckham confirmed it himself on Instagram, posting a celebratory clip. The team account followed with the unmistakable ‘OBJ is back’ tweet.

The Giants have been working their way back to Beckham for months. They brought him in for a physical earlier in the offseason. Head coach John Harbaugh openly admitted the team had stayed in touch. The interest was always there. It just took until June 1 to make it official.

What to Expect From Beckham in 2026

The honest answer is that nobody knows. Beckham played nine games for the Miami Dolphins in 2024 and put up just nine catches for 55 yards. He served a six-game suspension last season for violating the league’s PED policy, which is why no team took a flier on him in 2025.

Now he is back where it all started, and the question is whether the Giants want him on the roster or whether this is a sentimental tryout that will end at final cuts. Either way, the optics are massive. Giants fans get to see OBJ in the blue uniform one more time.

New York’s receiver room needs help. Injuries have wrecked the group, and the depth chart is thin. There is a path to playing time if Beckham can stay healthy and prove he still has anything left.

The reality check is that this Beckham is not the one who set MetLife on fire a decade ago. The sentimental version of this story is the one fans want. The football version will play out in August. Either way, OBJ is back in New York, and that alone is going to sell tickets.
