Cam Newton Says Giants Hype Is Way Too Early, and He Might Have a Point

Cam Newton is not buying what the New York Giants are selling.

On the latest episode of his “4th & 1” podcast, Newton went off on Giants fans who think the team is suddenly back. The roster has gotten some real attention this offseason after a few high-profile moves, but Newton thinks the injury history alone should slow people down.

“Anybody in New York that is jumping to conclusion to think that the Broadway is back in the Big Apple, wait a minute,” Newton said. “Last time I checked, JuJu (Smith-Schuster), Odell (Beckham), Malik (Nabers), Cam Skattebo, Jaxson Dart, what do they all have in common? New York Giant blue and New York Knick blue. They all have been in the same color tent. That’s blue.”

Newton’s point is hard to argue with. JuJu has been banged up for years. Odell Beckham Jr. has not stayed healthy since 2019. Malik Nabers tore his ACL last season. Skattebo missed time as a rookie. Dart got dinged up in his first year too.

If even half of those guys hit the IL again, the offense collapses. That is not hot take territory. That is just looking at the depth chart.

The Beckham return generated a ton of buzz, but Newton is right that he is probably a depth piece at this point. Same with JuJu. The Giants are not bringing them in to be the No. 1 option. They are bringing them in to give Dart some veterans to throw to while Nabers gets fully right.

That is a fine plan in theory. It also requires Nabers and Dart to actually be on the field. If one of them goes down, the season is in trouble. If both go down, it is over before September.

Newton spent most of last season trashing the Patriots, which actually worked out for him after New England’s loss in Super Bowl LX. He clearly enjoys the role of professional skeptic, and he has decided the Giants are his next target.

The interesting question is what the Giants do if Newton ends up being right. They have committed real cap space to a roster built around a young quarterback. If Dart cannot stay healthy, the easy fix becomes harder. Drafting another quarterback in 2027 means starting over again, and this is a fanbase that has done enough of that.

For now, the Giants are getting hype because they had an interesting offseason, not because they have actually proven anything. Newton’s argument is that you should wait until they put a real product on the field before you crown anybody. That is good advice in any sport, but especially in the NFL, and especially with the medical histories on this roster.

If the Giants stay healthy, they will be a fun team to watch. If they do not, Cam Newton is going to spend a lot of fall Sundays reminding everyone he called it.
