Brian Thomas Jr. Trade Rumors Heat Up: Which Teams Are Chasing the Jaguars WR?

Brian Thomas Jr. was supposed to be untouchable. Not anymore.

Multiple reports this week indicate that the Jacksonville Jaguars could move Thomas ahead of the season, despite the franchise publicly stating earlier this offseason that he was not going anywhere. Jacksonville reportedly is not shopping him actively, but the door is not closed either. If a team comes in with an offer that Jacksonville cannot refuse, the young wide receiver could be on the move.

The Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams have been linked as potential suitors. Both make sense in different ways.

Justin Herbert has needed a real No. 1 receiver for years. Adding Thomas would give the Chargers a legitimate threat to pair with Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. The Rams are chasing another Super Bowl window and Sean McVay has been trying to add explosive playmaking to Matthew Stafford’s rotation. Thomas fits both offenses.

What are the Jaguars actually thinking? Thomas is only 24 years old. He had an incredible rookie year in 2024, hauling in 87 receptions for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. That was one of the best rookie WR seasons in recent memory. He followed that up with a much quieter 2025, catching just 48 balls for 707 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The step back was not on Thomas. It was largely a function of Trevor Lawrence’s regression and offensive coordinator turnover. But the Jaguars are now facing a franchise-level question. Do they build around Lawrence and Thomas together, or do they use Thomas as trade capital to rebuild around Lawrence differently?

General manager James Gladstone is new to the job. He has an easier time being decisive than a GM tied to the previous regime. If he thinks a full rebuild around Lawrence needs additional picks and cap space, moving Thomas becomes real. Not likely. But not impossible.

The Chargers pitch to Jacksonville would probably center around picks and a young defender. Jim Harbaugh’s team has draft capital and needs to give Herbert weapons. A 2026 first plus a rotational piece might get the conversation moving. The Rams could offer a similar package, though their cap situation is tighter.

Other teams might jump in too. The Chiefs are always in the mix for playmakers. The Packers could use a true No. 1. The Steelers just got Aaron Rodgers and have no receiver certainty behind George Pickens. Any of those teams could kick tires if Thomas starts to actually become available.

Realistically, Thomas is staying put. The Jaguars have too much invested in him. They are not going to give up on a 24-year-old with elite rookie tape after one down season. But the fact that the conversation is even happening tells you something. Jacksonville is not the pillar of stability people assumed after last year’s offseason.

Trevor Lawrence needs a big season. Thomas needs volume. The coaching staff needs continuity. If any of those things go sideways in September, the trade conversations get louder. If Thomas comes out and puts up 100 yards a week to start the season, the conversations end.

Training camp opens in the next week or so. Every route Thomas runs will be watched. Every quote from a Jaguars executive will be dissected. Every leak from a rival GM will be measured.

For now, Brian Thomas Jr. is a Jaguar. Ask again in 30 days.
