Andy Reid’s Coaching Status For Chiefs vs Buccaneers Super Bowl

Andy Reid’s Coaching Status For Chiefs vs Buccaneers Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Super Bowl LV on Sunday.

Heading into the big game, many began to wonder about the status of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

On Friday, news broke that his son and team assistant Britt Reid was involved in a multi-car accident that left a 5-year-old child with life threatening injuries.

It was immediately clear that Britt would not participate in the Super Bowl – but what about Andy?

According to Dianna Russini of ESPN, the head coach will be on the sidelines for the big game.

“If there were any questions about whether or not Head Coach Andy Reid will travel to Tampa, I was told he will get on the plane today and coach in Sunday’s game per sources,” she wrote.

The accident in question happened on Thursday night. Britt, after allegedly having a few drinks, crashed into a stopped vehicle that had run out of a gas and a car that had come to its assistance. That second automobile contained the 5-year-old child who was left with life-threatening injuries.

“The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving outside linebackers coach Britt Reid,” the Chiefs said in a statement on Friday.

“We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”

Although it is somewhat unclear what role Britt’s alcohol consumption played in this particular incident, he does have a DUI on his record from 2008.

It remains to be seen how this situation will impact team morale and the head coach’s mindset going forward. Obviously this is much more serious topic than the ruckus surrounding Patrick Mahomes’ younger brother.

When you have a situation where one team is out there reading mean tweets and another is dealing with a legitimate life-or-death matter, it has a tendency to impact the on-field product. As of Saturday, the Chiefs remain a three-point favorite heading into the big game.
