Rory McIlroy’s decision to divorce his longtime wife, Erica Stoll, came as a huge surprise to his fans and critics alike.
While the 35-year-old has obviously always been a polarizing personality in the golf world, one thing that seemed really solid was his relationship with Stoll.
Shortly after news of their split went viral, McIlroy was immediately linked to rumors of a tawdry affair with a prominent sports media personality.
On Tuesday, roles reversed a bit. Late in the afternoon, a report began to circulate that Stoll was in fact the one that decided to leave McIlroy for another man – and that the individual in question was a jiu-jitsu instructor.

Given what happened to Tom Brady just last year, this report obviously went viral very quickly.
There is just one problem.
The account that posted the story about Stoll is clearly a parody account. And since there has been zero corroboration from anywhere else regarding this, it seems fairly certain that the report was and is false.

Real Reason For Rory McIlroy, Erica Stoll Divorcing
The real reason for McIlroy and Stoll’s divorce seemed to present itself on Tuesday as well, but nobody paid much attention to it given the salaciousness of the jiu-jitsu rumor.
“A point of contention in Rory’s marriage with Erica was that Erica was lonely in their marriage,” a source told Us Magazine. “Rory was a hard person to be married to.”
The source didn’t stop there, though.
“She knew what she was getting into with his profession, but once they had Poppy, things really changed and she had a new perspective,” the source continued. “Erica was usually absent for most of his tournaments and was really focused on Poppy.”
Will McIlroy and Stoll be able to keep things cordial once the divorce is finalized? Time will tell.
