Redskins Coaches Think Dwayne Haskins Sucks

Washington Redskins coaches apparently think Dwayne Haskins sucks.

That is problematic given the fact that Dan Snyder and Co. took him in the first round with the expectation that he would be the team’s quarterback of the future.

Haskins did not play in the team’s 33-7 defeat at the hands of the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Colt McCoy started at quarterback and recorded the unimpressive stat line of 119 yards, 0 touchdowns and 1 interception on 18-of-27 passing.

On Monday, less than 24 hours after Washington’s loss, head coach Jay Gruden was fired and replaced by Bill Callahan as head coach.

While appearing on ESPN’s Get Up, Dianna Russini indicated that there are some very real questions regarding whether Haskins has what it takes to be installed as a starter this year.

“Bill Callahan is now the interim head coach of the Washington Redskins, and he’s also the one coaching the run game on this team, so if he’s forced by ownership to play Dwayne Haskins, you’ve got to figure that they’re probably going to hand the ball off a thousand times,” she began.

“There’s been some conversations in this organization about catering the offense to Haskins’ strength, but the Redskins just don’t have the horses here, and Haskins likes to hold the ball.

“We saw it in training camp; it was ‘sack, sack, sack, sack. Oh, nice throw. Sack, sack, sack.’

“From what I’ve learned from talking to the football side of the organization,” she continued.

“Haskins is struggling to identify defenses, and he’s really having a hard time calling plays in the huddle.

“So in terms of him being ready at this point, I’m told he’s not. In fact, one coach said to me, ‘Not only is he not ready right now, but it could be a year, maybe even two more years, before Dwayne Haskins can actually be a starter in Washington.’

“So now it’s really going to come down to whether or not Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen want to roll the rookie out to just see what they have, and perhaps evaluate and make a decision whether or not he’s the future.”

Regardless of how you feel about Haskins or the Redskins individually, it is undeniable that the situation in Washington is an absolute mess.

Stay tuned – this soap opera will only get crazier from here on out.

  1. Snyder & Allen know Haskins isn’t ready. They’ve already seen that. If they have a question they can talk to the coaches. A lot of good QB’s sat for more than a year before they got their opportunity to start. When you’ve got a kid who played in a limited number of games in college, a team with a lot of injuries on offense, and a complicated offense you don’t throw him out there and hope for the best. He’s not going to learn anything running for his life or lying on his back with a couple of linebackers or linemen on top of him. Drafting Haskins was probably not the best move for this team if they want someone who can play now. He may eventually be a great QB, but it’s going to take time they don’t have.
