The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a disastrous 2021-22 NBA season. They entered the year with championship aspirations and then somehow failed to make the playoffs altogether.
A big part of L.A.’s woes was the disappointing play of Russell Westbrook. Not only did he struggle on the court, but he had a bunch of weirdly ugly incidents off it as well. In the process, he turned off both teammates and coaches.
Unsurprisingly, many within the Lakers’ organization and in the general fan base want Westbrook gone.
It appears the feeling is mutual.
Eagle-eyed fans recently noticed that Westbrook seems to have liked a comment suggesting that he should get off his current squad ASAP.

Yikes.
Understandably, reactions poured in immediately:
I think Russell is one hell of a player. I would love to see him win a championship but it will not happen with the Lakers. I really don’t see him playing with any team in the west at all. He is bound to go East.

There are currently four teams willing to take Westbrook off the Lakers’ hands this summer. Time will tell if a deal actually comes to fruition, though. L.A. covets one particular player in a Westbrook-related swap, but it’s unclear if that’s actually a feasible option at this juncture.

Clearly Westbrook and the Lakers need to go their separate ways.
Will circumstances align in a way that permits that to happen?
An answer should emerge in the coming weeks and months.
